Evangelion:1.0 - Rei Ayanami figure, Ichibansho

In Neon Genesis Evangelion, Rei Ayanami is one of the series’ most memorable characters, with a presence built on silence, distance, and an almost constant sense of mystery. As the pilot of Evangelion Unit-00, she stands as one of the most instantly recognizable figures in the franchise, both through her appearance and through the singular place she holds in the story. This official Rei Ayanami PVC figure by Bandai, from the Ichibansho line, stands approximately 16 cm tall and presents her in a restrained display closely tied to Evangelion’s visual identity.

Within the world of Evangelion, Rei holds a central place because she embodies many of the series’ deepest themes, especially around identity, isolation, and connection with others. Her relationship with Gendo, her particular bond with Shinji, and the way she exists at a distance give her a role far larger than her few words might suggest. She brings to the story a presence that seems cold on the surface, yet carries a fragility and strangeness that leave a lasting mark on the series. Her role in battle as well as in the emotional structure of the narrative makes her an essential figure, somewhere between enigma, sacrifice, and restraint. The figure reflects that identity well through a still and calm attitude that feels true to her singular aura.

Visually, the piece shows Rei seated in a gray-blue pilot seat or module with very futuristic lines, tilted forward on a clear base. She wears her iconic white plugsuit, with black, red, green, and orange details visible across the torso, arms, and legs. Her short very light blue hair frames the face, with her characteristic small white hair clips on both sides. Her expression remains neutral and composed, while the seated position, extended legs, and relaxed hands reinforce the impression of complete calm. The overall result keeps a very readable silhouette and a particularly elegant display presence.
