In The Summer Hikaru Died, Yoshiki's everyday life changes dramatically after his childhood friend Hikaru disappears in the mountains. Torn between his attachment to Hikaru and the unease caused by this unknown presence, Yoshiki finds himself at the heart of the strange phenomena gradually spreading through their village.
